Bridge-Beam and Slab Bridge

Beam and slab bridge consists of either in situ or precast beam, with in situ deck slab.

This arrangement suits the small and medium span bridges, but not for long span.

The span length governs the type of beam to use.

For instance, “M” beam is suitable for short span, “I” and “Y” for medium span and “U” for longer span.

Typically, the span-to-depth ratio varies between 16:1 to 20:1.

Concrete deck slab is usually casted on the permanent formwork supported by the beams. Thus, the spacing of beams often not exceeding 3m.

The typical thickness of deck slab in this system ranging from 200mm to 300mm.
